Craig thenaturalmedic:

Hey, what's up. Y'all it's Craig, the natural medic and coming at you another video. If you're new here, we talk about hiking, backpacking and outdoor adventures here, and I'm on an outdoor adventure. This time I have a different location. You can see it's very cloudy out when I'm at an elevation of 7,877 feet, and I'm at Capulin. National monument or mountain capital national monument. About to hike around the type of this ancient volcano. It is an extinct volcano, and you can go around the rim now, normally you'd be able to see, but as you can see today, it is a little cloudy, but love for you to join me on this hike around the rim. If you're ever in this area, definitely. This place out right here is a scaled up map of the road to the top and the actual trail. Pretty neat. Off we go. Capulin volcano national monument. When you come in, here's the entrance road. and there is Capulin itself in front of you. You can drive up that and hike the rim and down into the crater itself. There's other trails in the park as well, but very cool place. If you don't have a park pass it's$20 per car to come into the park and drive up to the top. Once you're in the park and you pay your fee at the visitor center you can pretty much go anywhere in the park. You can probably hear me huffing and puffing as I go up. The deal here. Hopefully the wind's not too bad, but starting to go up the trail still got more to go up. Let's keep going. The whole trail, around the top is paved. Not that makes any easier, but it does to stay on path a lot easier, man. It's just Misty spooky up here. So cool crater. Inter portion of the caldera is over that way. Gonna keep going so up there is the highest point on the rim trail. Don't know the exact height. I'm saying it's probably over 8,000 feet, probably close to 8,200. Not sure. Hey, hopefully that means the hard part's over with but I still gotta go all the way around the rim here. Gonna continue on still Misty, still foggy. Just in case you didn't know. Now, the landscape up here is very fragile. They do want you to protect it and stay on the trail. That's why they have this nice I guess this is like soil crete paved trail. They got a lot of benches for resting, contemplating life along the side of the trail for us relatively flat Landers, good places to catch your breath. Anyway, carrying on a little bit of a break in the clouds right here. You can see that as as you go through there. Hey, if you're enjoying this video at this point, make sure you gimme a thumbs up. Let me know. You've approving my content and consider subscribing to the channel. I'm gonna continue down the path. I think I'm about at the halfway point, but man, it's just a glorious little trek. How often can you walk across the top of a extinct volcano? Now, right here, you can see the bottom of the crater. You can see all that kind of grayish looking rock in there. That's actually lava and there's a trail that you can take. If I have time at the end, I may take that down there, but I'm gonna continue on right down here. Oh, yeah. The length of the trail is approximately one and one 10th mile around the top. And there's a view of it. You can't see all of it, cuz it's not obscured by clouds. That's pretty much where I just walked. Definitely wanna check it out. You can walk down here to the bottom of the crater parking lot is up there. And then that's how you get down here on this little trail. All of this over here is lava flow in the actual vent of the volcano. As you see in the illustration here on the panel. How many times can you stand in the old volcano crater or vent and just be like, wow. The trail that I walked all the way around. the top of, at the top, definitely option will come down here to the crater, cuz you definitely have to walk back up to the parking lot, but worth it. There's abundant wildlife out here. I don't know if you can see'em very well, but there's one right? There one, a little bit lower and one, a little bit higher over here. And that is three mule deer that are just of grazing out there and watching us. pretty neat handing over here where the little sign is and this is the lava flow right here. Just another view of it. Pretty awesome. Pretty awesome. Now that it's clearing up, I wanted to give you a little peek at the parking lot before we head down. Wow. What a view, all kinds of stuff that you can see from up top. I don't think my mom was very impressed That's okay. I enjoyed myself and I think she enjoyed herself for the most part. Maybe hiking is not her cup of tea. Coming to the end of my journey. You can see over here, down the hill, down the mountain, the volcano, whatever the topography of the land sprawled out before us. You can see the parking lot ahead where my vehicle and my mom are waiting. Mom decided to turn around just a little bit too much for her to go up that uphill. I completely understand. It happens anyway. Let's let's continue to thank our lucky stars that we're able to come out here and enjoy this and share it with you. There's a little deal about porcupines. Porcupines are cool, if you enjoyed this video, please do me a favor and let me know by giving me a thumbs up, subscribe to the channel for more content like this. I'm definitely going on some more outdoor adventures while I'm hear in New Mexico. Hope you'll join me until then. I'll see you on the trail guy. Bye bye.
