Speaker 1:

Hey, what's going on folks?

Speaker 1:

It's Gray the Natural Medic and I'm doing my second hike of the day here at Cassidy Arch named for Butch Cassidy. It's a 1.7 mile one-way trip up to the top, strenuous, about 636 feet of elevation gained and, uh, supposed to be a nice view. So why don't you come with me and check it out? Cassidy Arch trail 1.5 miles starting here. Elevation here is at 5,400 feet. Just over a mile At the arch it's 6,350. So quite a bit of change. I have to pardon my heavy breathing, but I think part of the reason this Cassidy Arch is so strenuous's because you're covering a lot of ground, elevation wise, in a short distance. So about halfway up to Cassidy arch as far as the elevation goes. So I probably got about a mile and change to get there. But look at this view. This is just beautiful, so beautiful. There's the cars down there Walked around that ridge right there, man, interesting formation that you can see pretty clearly from here.

Speaker 1:

If you look over the top of this ridge. Across the way there's a pointy structure that is known as Fern's Nipple Quite interesting, quite interesting Parking area down there. At the moment I don't see anybody behind us. There was a gentleman in front of us who seemed to be in quite a hurry. I like to go at a medium pace myself. I like to go at a medium pace myself. It's amazing to me, walking through this pinyon forest on top of the, the ridge here, I just feel like I'm going to hear Clint Eastwood hear that theme song from his old westerns and see him pop out from behind a rock with a cowboy hat. Or Robert Redford, what's his name? Paul Newman, butch Cassidy and Son of Nets kid, it's going back a minute. I think both of those films were released before I was even born.

Speaker 1:

But just think about wee-woo, wah, wee-wee-wee, the moment you've all been waiting for the Cassidy Arch. Wow, not quite there yet. We've got about another half mile to go, another 200-something foot of elevation change. But to making it. And, by the way, molly's nipple sorry, fern's nipple, not molly's I don't know who molly is. I never met her.

Speaker 1:

Okay, what you've all been waiting for? The cassidy arch. It is quite large, as you can see it all the way from here. It's 500 feet above the wash drive and the scenic drive which is located behind it. Look at this lovely view that you have so crazy. Oh, hello there, anakin, I have the high ground, wow. So I'm on the other side of the arch here, kind of standing on it. Pretty cool, cassidy Art. It looks nice and thick but I don't know how sturdy it is. And there's looking down. Well, if you can see that, I can't really see that, but I'm hoping the camera can. Pretty wild, y'all Pretty wild. Yep, lots of rock layers exposed. Very cool, very, very cool. Not good, you can see that, but I'm standing in front of the arch on the I guess, the western side, and about to head back. Beautiful view, beautiful view, cassidy Arch. And about to head back. Beautiful view, beautiful view, cassidy arch. All right, almost down. You can still see fern's nipple poking over the top of the horizon there or top of that ridge. The vehicles are down that way, so keep on heading down.

Speaker 1:

Made it back from the Cassidy Arch Trail About three and a half miles total, took about two hours 45 minutes. I was stopping and kind of lollygagging for pictures and video and stuff like that.
